On Monday we decided to take a train to visit Heidelberg, where Eny's sister Ina and her boyfriend Chris live. Heidelberg is a city in south west Germany, but a few hours north of Lörrach. The city is a very old city, like most cities in Europe. It has a very large castle ruins up on a hill, which is quite a nice view to behold. Unfortunately, we did not have the time to check out the castle up close. Today, Heidelberg is known as a college town because of a large university there.
Ina and Chris were kind enough to let us stay with them for the night that we were there. They even showed us around the town and had dinner with us in the evening.

On Tuesday we started off with a delicious all you can eat German brunch. Ilya may have gained several pounds in this meal because of how much he ate.

Someone had a dog in the restaurant, which apparently you can do so long as the restaurant is okay with it, and your dog isn't disruptive or noisy.
After eating we did our own little walking tour of the city. We saw many nice buildings, some good views of the castle from across the river, and more.

After walking around we stopped for a drink (we were still full from our brunch) and to allow Rebecca to relax for a bit. We stopped at a cool looking German restaurant.

On the way back there was a cool looking fruit stand. Ilya wanted to buy a few cherries to snack on, but at first the guy said it was seven Euros for a small bag, when we said no, he told us his other cherries were less expensive, so we got those.

We took the city train back to Chris and Ina's, then went with them to the train station, were we headed back to Lörrach. Once back in Lörrach, we found Sven making a delicious German noodle dish called
Spätzle which we enjoyed before heading to bed.
Kyle's family makes Spätzle. Maybe one time they can make some for you!
ReplyDeleteReading this post made me hungry...
Sounds like a deal! When should we come over to eat some Spätzle? Will there be German beer here as well? =)
